After going undefeated through pool and bracket play, the Purple Dragons locked into a pitcher’s duel with Coach Curry’s very talented Blue Panthers for a dramatic championship final. The Pink Pirates road to the championship game was more of a roller coaster ride. After coming out of pool play as the lowest seed, they upset the number one seed with a dominant victory in the first bracket game. The semifinal game was incredibly emotional, with the Pirates coming from behind in the top of the sixth, and then holding the lead in the bottom half of the inning, recording the final out with the bases loaded up by one run in dramatic fashion. Although they jumped ahead early in the championship game, it just wasn't quite enough to hold off powerhouse Out of The Blue. After the game, there were no glum faces or tears from these resilient girls. They held their heads high, the wind whipping their pony tails as they took turns running around the bases one last time, all smiles and high fives. We are extremely proud of what this team accomplished, especially considering that five of the players were either brand new to softball or were playing in their second season. Thank you to the coaches and parents for supporting the team!

The 12U Shockwave went undefeated during the tournament. The team was led by strong pitching by Leutgeb, Noble and Sealy, Rocha's leadership behind the plate, and powerful offense including homeruns by Leutgeb and Rocha, a triple by Chen, and doubles by Arnold and Cain. Sealy hit a double and 2 homeruns, including one in the championship to tie up the game, and led the team in RBI's with 8. Cain, Noble and Sglarto also had clutch hits to bring in runs. Kaupa scored the winning run on Leutgeb's walk off homerun in the bottom of the 6th inning in the championship game. It was a true team effort for the 12U Shockwave.

The North Shore 14U team, Gabe the Dogs, won the North County Super League tournament last weekend. After beating Vista 6-3, Scripps Ranch 9-2 and Poway 17-2, the undefeated team was in the championship game vs Oceanside. The lead was back and forth all game. Sigala doubled in the 4th inning to tie up the game, and Lemans doubled in the 5th for North Shore to take the lead. North Shore pulled away from Oceanside for good in the 6th inning when Travagline singled to score Howley, and Usselman doubled to knock in Cain and Travagline. Breitenbecher, Delouri, Harasha, Lemans, Loretta, Moore and Travagline contributed to North Shore scoring 4 more runs in the 7th inning. Oceanside had a failed comeback in the bottom of the 7th, and with the tying run on 3rd base, Hingorani made a sliding catch and Cain struck out 2 to end the game with a final score of 12-11. Cain had 18 strikeouts and only gave up 5 earned runs throughout the tournament. North Shore's offense was led by Usselman (9 RBI's, 2 doubles, 5 runs scored), Cain (6 RBI's, 2 doubles, 6 runs scored), Sigala (5 RBI's, 2 doubles), Travagline (1 double, 6 runs scored) and Howley (5 stolen bases, 7 runs scored).
